Description
By Dave Racer, MLitt
This 532-page beautifully-crafted hardcover book tells the life story of Harold D. Kletschka, MD. Dr. Kletschka, who died in 2004, was the “Father of the Artificial Heart,” a man fully-dedicated to saving human life through the application of science and medicine, plus his Christian dedication.
Growing up dirt poor in Central Minnesota, Dr. Kletschka convinced the Minnesota Medical School to admit him, where he developed a passion for saving lives as a surgeon. Eventually, he became a board-certified thoracic and cardiovascular surgeon. Founder of the U.S. Air Force Cardiovascular Research Center (now at Willford Hall), Dr. Kletschka founded the first company ever dedicated to medical device development without a finished product. At Bio-Medicus, Inc. he and Edson Rafferty perfected the world’s most perfect, fully-implantable artificial heart.
His biography is the story of a life well-lived in service to God and man.
